How to Tell If Your Bat’s Pickup Is Right for You

“Pickup” is the word players use for how heavy a bat feels when you lift it — and it matters more than the number stamped on the label.

Why the printed weight lies

Two bats both marked 2lb 9oz can feel completely different depending on where the wood is concentrated. A bat with weight low toward the toe swings differently from one with weight distributed toward the shoulders.

A simple pickup test

Hold the bat in your normal grip and lift it to the top of your backlift without swinging. If it feels noticeably heavier there than it did standing still, the pickup is likely too heavy for you.
